Following an examination of the assumptions and theoretical framework which underlie contemporary art therapy, considers the influence of the work of early psychoanalysts such as Freud and Jung on modern art therapy. Looks at the early studies in both Europe and the United States which explored the relationship between the arts and mental illnesses.
