11505. BLACK MALE-FEMALE EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT DISPARITIES: BLACK MALES & THE CULTURE OF URBAN VIOLENCE. Presents data demonstrating higher levels of black educational attainment among females. Argues (based on an assessment of possible alternative explanations drawn from the literature) that black females outperform black males on measures of educational achievement because of an urban black culture-environment which draws black males irrevocably towards a "cult of violence" and away from the values of academic environment. Also cites ways in which the in-group (Black) and out-group (White) of black culture provides more support for females than for males. 13p., 93f., 33b.
