12625. ONLINE STOCK TRADING AND THE ONLINE INVESTOR IN SOUTH KOREA. This paper provides a detailed examination of the potential for, barriers against, and mechanics of building an online stock trading business in South Korea. The paper begins with a profile of the Korean Stock Exchange (KSE) and the securities market in South Korea. Included in this section is a close examination of the Korean individual investor - his role in the KSE, his propensity to invest, and his general characteristics - and of the general characteristics of the Korean consumer. Also considered are factors in the Korean economic and political structure which impact the KSE and the individual's propensity to invest. The next section then provides a profile of the individual Internet investor based on the U.S. market. The investigation then examines the current and potential Internet user in Korea, looking closely at both the individual and infrastructure factors which are key to Internet growth. The concluding section draws all of these elements together to present a Market Plan for establishing an online stock trading business in Korea. 35p., 187f., 121b.   $133
