17336. OTTO OF FREISLING. This paper will discusses the views of the German historian Otto of Freising (c. 1111-1158), as contained in his “Deeds of Frederick Barbarossa.” Shows that Otto’s work helps us to understand the importance of Christianity in the politics of the time and argues that Otto can be seen as a forerunner of Renaissance thought in his claims regarding the positive influence of classical Rome on the Lombard political system.
