| 18540. THE EPISTLES OF JOHN. This paper provides background material on the three letters of John in the New Testament and addresses various issues raised by them. The issues include authorship, date and location of writing, and the purpose of the letters. It is noted that the letters contain messages regarding true versus false teachings, the importance of God’s love, Jesus’ human as well as divine nature, Christian hospitality, and authority in the church. It is argued that these messages were applicable at the time they were written, and they also provide lessons for Christians in the present day.
